Hello on this cold and snowy day. Today I have a card project I did to share with you. I saw a tutorial on Splitcoast Stampers for a building block card and decided I would give it a try. Now… I have a Cricut Explore so I thought why not try to create a cut file in Design Space to let my Cricut do some of the work for me. After a couple hours of work, I had the base file for the card. Now came the fun of creating a dressed up version.
The process of deciding on images and paper is definitely the hardest part of this design. I knew what I wanted it to say but didn’t have enough “blocks” to say it. Here is where the Explore came in handy. I had it write one of the words on an image for me to add to a block. After I had the design figured out and the difficult task of selecting paper complete, I finally got all the pieces cut out. I absolutely love my Explore and the detailed images it is able to cut out. Check out the beautiful snowflake in the top corner! Assembly was pretty easy but I found a flaw in my design that I didn’t like. I also noticed that the original tutorial hadn’t addressed the same issue so it wasn’t just my design. The area behind the blocks was open and I was worried the structure of the card would be compromised so I had to add another piece to the back. The card would be fine without it but the extra piece in the back covered up the smaller pieces from the blocks and also gave me a place to write a greeting since I had chosen such a busy print.
If you have a Cricut Explore and would like the basic cut file, click here to get it. You can also find it in a group I am an admin in on Facebook called Cricut Design Space Group. This is a great group to join if you are looking for help and inspiration with your Cricut or Design Space. If you create a card with the file I created, I would love it if you would share it with me either here or on my Facebook page. Anyone who shares a card on my Facebook page, in the Design Space group or here on my blog made with the base file, I will include your work here on my blog. Can’t wait to see what everyone creates.
I hope everyone is keeping warm and finding time to be crafty. Till next time…
